Animal Control
The Street Department, in conjunction with the Police Department, enforces the city's animal control ordinance. Dogs should be kept inside, on a leash or confined in a fence. Dogs reported as being dangerous, stray or a public nuisance are subject to being picked up by Street Department animal control personnel.
Alabama Wildlife Center at Oak Mountain State Park
The wildlife hotline receives nearly 4,000 calls annually about a wide variety of wildlife issues. Staffed for 13 hours a day (from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.), 365 days a year, the hotline provides free advice and information to concerned Alabamians on how to deal with all kinds of wildlife problems and emergencies such as:
Stray or Loose Pets
Stray or loose dogs and cats picked up are immediately taken to Oak View Animal Hospital in Pelham. Oak View Animal Hospital is located at 1810 Southpark Drive and can be reached at 205-988-3559. Pet owners can retrieve their lost pets during Oak View's business hours and are responsible for paying all charges for care and boarding of their dog or cat, and if necessary vaccine compliance. You must show identification and proof of ownership. If needed, Oak View Animal Hospital can perform a microchip insertion which is a permanent form of identification for your pet.Animal Control Personnel
