The City of Pelham's Sticker of the Month for July celebrates our nation's independence and highlights the Alabama Wildlife Center, the oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center in Alabama, which is right here in Pelham.
The Alabama Wildlife Center is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a dual mission. It provides medical and rehabilitative care for Alabama's injured and orphaned native birds and educates people to heighten awareness and appreciation for Alabama's native wildlife. The AWC was founded by Anne Miller in 1977. Since its inception, the AWC has helped rehabilitate over 100,000 sick and injured species of animals.

Some birds that come into the AWC are deemed non-releasable because of their inability to survive in the wild due to their injury or condition. Those birds become educational ambassadors. Shelby, a bald eagle, is one of those, and she was the inspiration for our Sticker of the Month for July. The AWC offers educational programming throughout the year. Two special summer camps for children are planned in July. Learn more about Shelby and the upcoming summer camps on the Alabama Wildlife Center's website.
Our July Sticker of the Month is available at the Alabama Wildlife Center, located at 100 Terrace Drive, inside Oak Mountain State Park. It's also located at the Pelham Public Library, where you can find all sorts of books about bald eagles and our nation's history. Simply ask a staff member at either location for the Sticker of the Month. Supplies are limited. Once they're gone, they're gone, so don't miss out!
To be entered for a chance to win some more cool Pelham swag, do the following:
- Take a picture at the location where you get your sticker. The sticker must be in the photo, and identifying characteristics of the location must also be clearly visible. (i.e., a sign, the building, stuff like that!)
- Follow the City of Pelham *and* the facility where you got your sticker on Instagram and/or Facebook.
- Post your photo and tag the City of Pelham *and* the facility where you got your sticker.
- Use the hashtags #pelhamalabama, #apathapart, and #explorepelhamal in your post.
If you post to both platforms, you'll get an extra entry! We'll also throw in an additional entry if you post another picture of where you end up putting your sticker! Will it be your water bottle, your laptop, or somewhere else? We can't wait to see! The criteria for the second photo are the same as the first.
We'll announce the contest winner on the first Monday of the following month.
