JULIE MURPHY (b. November 8, 1985). Texas-based Murphy is known for her contemporary coming-of-age stories that focus on underrepresented teens. Her most vibrant heroines to date are the proud, plus-sized pageant hopeful, Willowdean (Dumplin’), and the six-foot-tall, blue-haired, queer/questioning swimmer, Ramona (Ramona Blue). Murphy’s books are recommended for older teens looking for nuanced explorations of identity, sexual orientation, and complex family relationships. Her third installment in the Dumplin' series, Pumpkin, is forthcoming in 2021. See the link below to learn more about this author!
